visiting the dentist

When many of us think about our health we think about a trip to the doctors, but your health is not just linked to your well being and medical situation, going to the dentist should also be included in our health routine.

A routine check up is often only carried out every 12 months just to check that are teeth and gums are ok and that we do not require any work such as fillings etc. This can take as little as 10-15 mins but a dentist can quickly pick up on any issues often fixing them before they have really become a problem.

If you have children you should also take them to the dentist from the age of two. They will often have an informal examination and the dentist will often use this time to introduce them to the setting and the equipment they will be using on them.

Looking after your health

Looking after your health from a young age can have a massive effect on your wellbeing as you get older. If you lead an unhealthy lifestyle in your teens, drink too much, smoke, eat unhealthy meals all the time then you may get away with it but as you get older you may develop problems that are very had to rectify.

Smoking is a number one cause of cancer in the UK and despite this fact, still many of us do it. It may be that when you are younger you do not really consider the health risks or think that it will never happen to you but the fact is that 1 in 3 of us on average do develop some sort of cancer so surely we should try and illuminate this as much as possible.

Going to the doctors for a health MOT is a great way to find out how you are and if there are any areas of your lifestyle that you need to consider changing in order to improve your health.

Finding the time to exercise

One of our many excuses for not exercising is that we simply do not have the time. Exercise does not have to entail fitness classes lasting an hour a week or regular visits to the gym. We can all exercise in our day to day life.

Even simple things like taking the stairs and not the lift, increasing our walking pace to a slow jog or quick walk and riding on a bike to work rather than catching the bus are great ways to exercise without taking up too much additional time.

Even cleaning is great for exercising as often you are having to reach and stretch to get in to the areas you need to. When increasing your exercise level it is advised to do it slowly so as not to overstrain your body.

If you want to take up running then start off with a jog over a short distance for a week or so before increasing the speed or distance that you run.

Building your Home Gym

A home gym is an incredibly useful, but potentially expensive thing to develop. They allow people to decouple from multiple weekly visits to a gym, where they have to spend a lot of time and money to exercise around a large number of other people and the unavailable machines. You get to exercise on your own, without the eyes of the world on you.

A home gym can consist of just a few pieces of equipment, such as a weight set and bike machine, to something that is actually comparable to what a top quality gym provides. The key thing to take account of when building your own gym on a budget is to spend as little as possible to get a full body workout machine. This can be used to tone your muscles and improve your cardiovascular system, and therefore your fitness.

The Elliptical Trainer (AKA Cross Trainer)

An elliptical trainer or more commonly known in the gym and health industry as the crosstrainer (but also referred to as an X Trainer for more common gym goers and exercise fanatics) is really a stationary exercise machine used to simulate the natural movement of walking and jogging. However, more importantly it allows to reduce the typical types of excessive tension towards the bones, hence lowering the danger of influence accidents which jogging and running can cause, due to the impact seen on bones and the human body. Because of this, people who have had any bad accidents in the past, such as broken bones or torn ligaments can use an elliptical to remain fit, since the low-impact machine can really help get their fitness back on track.

Elliptical trainers provide a non-impact cardiovascular exercise that can vary from light to high-intensity on the basis of the velocity of the workout and the opposition inclination set by the individual.
